Christy has a passion for supporting her clients who stutter. Therapy focuses on self-awareness, self-advocacy, and acceptance. Fluency shaping strategies and techniques are also part of the overall therapy program. Christy has completed specialized work around the area of stuttering. Christy, and three other colleagues, created CHAT retreat in 2018. CHAT retreat is a retreat for adults who stutter. Work around stuttering included collaboration, self-reflection, advocacy activities and allowed important personal connections to occur amongst people who stutter. It was a powerful experience! Christy has also supported her current clients in self-advocacy activities such as becoming nationally recognized in both The Stuttering Foundation and the National Stuttering Association.
Christy is versed in multiple evidence-based therapy options for working with individuals who stutter. She has worked with all age groups on Fluency-shaping strategies, Stuttering Modification Techniques, and is comfortable providing consultative services to families on how best to support a young child who stutters. While treatment can incorporate these strategies and techniques, Christy’s main focus for treatment is self-awareness, self-advocacy, and acceptance. Work is done around stuttering education, identification, and desensitization; ultimately, helping clients to develop an overall positive communication image.
