Frequently Asked Questions

How do I find a speech therapist?

If you think you, your child, or relative requires a SLP, your first step is to speak with your primary care provider. You can also request support through the public school system. If those avenues don’t get you the results you want, you can also refer yourself to a local speech and language therapy practice. Here is a helpful link on how to find a SLP

What can a SLP diagnose?

SLPs can evaluate, diagnose, and treat speech, language, dyslexia, cognition, communication, and swallowing disorders. They can provide training and education to client/family/caregivers and other professionals. Here is a helpful link on what Speech-Language Pathologists do.

How do I join my telehealth session?

Dynamic Speech & Language Therapy uses Zoom for Healthcare which is a HIPAA compliant telehealth platform. All individuals who join will enter a virtual waiting room. The SLP will allow/admit clients into the telehealth therapy room. Please see our teletherapy services page for more information about teletherapy.

What does a comprehensive evaluation look like?

A comprehensive evaluation begins with a parent/caregiver interview so the SLP can learn more about the client. Using that information, the SLP will determine the best tools to use for the evaluation. Speech and language evaluations include both standardized and non-standardized measures and for young children typically take about an hour to complete. For older children and adults, evaluations can take about 1-2 hours. If there are multiple areas of concern, additional testing may be needed and may span across different sessions.

What happens after the evaluation?

Dynamic Speech & Language Therapy will review all assessments utilized and provide you with a report detailing those findings. The document will provide information on strengths/weaknesses and recommendations for therapy. The SLP will spend time reviewing the document with you. If necessary, therapy sessions will be scheduled after that time.

What if I already have a current evaluation?

Some insurance panels require an evaluation to be completed by Dynamic Speech & Language Therapy prior to any therapy being provided. In other cases, we may be able to accept a current speech-language evaluation from another provider. The evaluation must have been completed within the last 6 months and must contain the pertinent areas in which therapy is being requested. For example, a client requesting speech/articulation therapy, must have an evaluation in the area of speech sound development.

What does Speech/Language therapy look like and how long will I have to be in therapy?

This depends on many variables including motivation, attendance, severity, and diagnosis. Some diagnoses require more frequent distributed practice across the week while others may require less frequent sessions. Dynamic Speech & Language Therapy will work together with their clients to determine the best therapy plan that incorporates both evidence-based practices and client preferences.

What is teletherapy and is it effective?

Teletherapy has been shown to alleviate many of the challenges families and individuals face in accessing speech-language services. For example, teletherapy approaches can help SLPs reach families who live in remote, rural, underserved areas or in areas with provider shortages. Additionally, teletherapy can address travel challenges for both families and SLPs. Teletherapy has been shown to increase the use of evidence-based practices in natural settings (such as homes), reduce wait time for services, ease schedule challenges, and provide a cost-effective service delivery model.

What forms of payment does Dynamic Speech & Language Therapy accept?

We currently accept: check, credit, and/or debit cards (Visa, Discover, AMEX, MasterCard, JCB, DinersClub) and FSA/HSA for therapy services. Payment can be made via the patient portal link and all clients are required to have a copy of their photo ID and a credit card on file and set to autopay at time of service. Please adhere to our payment policy that was signed as part of the mandatory intake packet for all new clients. If you would like an additional copy of this document, please let the office know.

What happens if I need to cancel?

Attendance and participation in therapy along with transparent communication is essential to our therapeutic success. All cancellations must be submitted 24 hours prior to your scheduled appointment either via phone and/or email. *A fee of $75 may be assessed if the cancellations occur outside of the 24 hour window. This fee will be billed directly to the client and not their health insurance company, as medical insurance does not provide coverage for missed sessions. This fee must be paid prior to scheduling your next session. While Mrs. Christy Bisconer, DBA “Dynamic Speech & Language Therapy” LLC understands that illnesses, inclement weather, and emergencies occur, we respectfully request that you avoid frequent cancellations or “no shows”. Please adhere to our attendance / cancellation policy regarding providing our office with advance notification for any cancellations submitted 24 hours prior to your scheduled appointment. The attendance / cancellation policy was signed as part of the mandatory intake packet for all new clients. If you would like an additional copy of this document, please let the office know.
