PROMPT for Restructuring Oral Muscular Phonetic Targets

What is PROMPT therapy? PROMPT stands for “PROMPTS for Restructuring Oral Muscular Phonetic Targets.” PROMPT is best known for the use of “tactile/touch” cues to the face to support speech sound production. A SLP uses PROMPT techniques to gently guide the client’s articulators (jaw, lips, vocal folds, tongue) by targeting certain words, phrases, or sentences and using the touch cues to shape and support the proper movements to achieve those targets.

PROMPT can be utilized with a variety of speech sound disorders including clients who may have may have Autism, Apraxia, Dysarthria, Cerebral Palsy, or other motor speech disorders. PROMPT can be implemented with clients from approximately 6months of age and up.

Christy became a PROMPT trained clinician by completing the Introduction to the PROMPT Technique Course in 2019. Christy has found remarkable success in utilizing her PROMPT skills while working with both children experiencing a variety of speech sound delays and adult clients experiencing Apraxia post-secondary to a stroke.
